Anna Breckon (Auckland 1984) is an independent artist, film studies scholar, and critic. Anna has worked as a director, editor, and writer for various projects presented at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Performance Space, Dark Mofo, Perth Festival, Adelaide Festival, Rising Festival, Weiwuying: National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, Harbourfront Centre and The Australian Centre for Contemporary Art. Anna has a PhD in queer and feminist film theory at The University of Sydney. Her thesis considers queer forms of happiness in a selection of contemporary auteur films. Anna has published on John Waters (2013) and Todd Solondz (2018) in Screen (Oxford University Press) and Showgirls (Indiana University Press).

Together with Nat Randall, she created the film and theatre play The Second Woman. After its performances in Australia, played by Nat Randall, the play also created a furore in Toronto, Taiwan, New York, London and Düsseldorf. In each country, a top actress took on the challenge of being on stage for 24 hours. Among others, Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development, Transparent, Search Party) made her theatre debut in New York, Zhi-Ying Zhu (Lust, Caution) was seen in Taiwan and in London, Ruth Wilson (The Affair, Mrs Wilson, Luther) was on stage at The Young Vic in London. Breckon and Randall were nominated for the 2019 Helpmann Award for 'Best Production'.
