Alexis Blake’s (Pittsburgh, 1981) multidisciplinary practice coalesces visual art, performance and dance. She investigates the way in which the body is represented and treated as an archive. Her work directly engages with the representation and subjectification of women’s bodies while activating them as sites and agents for socio-political change. For the performance Rock to jolt [ ] stagger to ash, she won the Prix de Rome Visual Arts 2021. For this, the visual artist immersed herself in lamentations as a collective expression of mourning and protest. The work will be performed in the Stedelijk Museum.
