Thanks to artists like Beyoncé, Kanye West and Janelle Monáe, Afrofuturism has made a roaring comeback. This exuberant Afro-American art movement mixes art with mythology, science fiction and psychedelic colours. Writer Octavia Butler’s work (an adaptation of her novel Parable of the Sower is being performed at the festival) is Afrofuturism too. In collaboration with the music platform Subbacultcha, Holland Festival is organising an appropriately heady club evening in OT301: Afrofuturism! with extra-terrestrial music, art and futuristic sunglasses.
