Abel Selaocoe (South Africa, 1992) is a cellist revolutionising the cello by effortlessly navigating various genres and styles, from collaborations with world musicians and beatboxers to classical recitals. He blends virtuosic performance with improvisation, singing, and body percussion, aiming to connect Western and non-Western musical traditions and make classical music more accessible to diverse audiences.
In 2016, he formed Chesaba, a trio focused on African music, including many of his own compositions. He collaborates with a variety of artists, enjoys a partnership with Manchester Collective, and has participated in successful projects like the Sirocco programme. Selaocoe made his solo debut at the BBC Proms in 2021. He is an exclusive recording artist with Warner Classics, with his debut album Where is Home? released in 2022.
